Samsung / We Are Social
Sabrina x Galaxy
Short n’ sweet n’ closer than ever
A fan-made tour documentary shot entirely on the Galaxy S23
Music fans will always want to get closer to their favourite artists.
It’s why the most devoted might camp outside hotels for days on end, poring over lyrics and obsessing every inch of the artist’s lore. The less hardcore will be content buying and reselling merch. Others will fork out for extortionately expensive meet and greet packages limited to a select few with cash to burn and content to create on tour.
The smartest ones, however, will buy a phone that makes them look like they were as close as possible, even if they’re stuck in the nosebleeds.
Having access to a pocket sized telephoto lens that lets you zoom in on a performer’s upper lip sweat from your uppermost tier seat has become the ultimate flex in the age of short form videos documenting three and a half hour stadium tours. The algorithm really loves a crash zoom.
One of Samsung’s global celebrity ambassadors, Sabrina Carpenter, commands the kind of content-savvy following just as interested in her bawdy lyrics as they are in her capturing her levels of projectile perspiration. They’re extremely savvy with a smartphone, having had them thrust into their hands before their cords were cut, and just as eager for money-can’t-buy experiences as they are new music to deconstruct.
We were engaged by social creative agency We Are Social to direct and produce a fan-made tour documentary shot exclusively on the Galaxy S23 Ultra, bringing to life the idea that Galaxy devices are the only ones powerful enough to bring you face to face with your favourite artist, regardless of where you’re sitting, owing to their high-resolution Super Zoom capabilities.
We hit the road with Carpenter on a leg of her North American tour, putting the responsibility of capturing the docu footage squarely in the hands of her biggest fans (with a little extra backup from a more experienced crew, naturally). It all culminated in a hometown gig in Philly on her birthday to boot. Once there, we also shot an interview with the artist using questions solicited from fans all over the world. By the people, for the people.
The campaign also included a suite of BTS stills captured by Alfredo Flores on the same device, the preferred fly on the wall lensman on world tours and music video sets for artists like Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber and Mariah Carey.
